Snagd collects zero personal data. Everything stays in your browser or your personal GitHub account.
Overview
Snagd is a Chrome extension that saves browser tabs as tasks. This privacy policy explains what data the extension accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored.
Last updated: July 2026
Data We Collect
Snagd does NOT collect any personally identifiable information. We do not collect:
Names, email addresses, or contact information
Browsing history or web activity
Location data
Financial or payment information
Any data that leaves your device (except when you explicitly enable GitHub Gist Sync to back up to your own account)
Data Stored Locally
Snagd stores the following data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync:
Tab titles and URLs that you choose to save as tasks
Optional notes you add to tasks
Due dates and priority tags you set on tasks
Task completion status
Your extension preferences (theme, nudge settings)
Your GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) and Gist ID (if you choose to enable the optional GitHub Gist Sync feature)
By default, this data never leaves your browser. It is not transmitted to any server, third party, or external service.
GitHub Gist Sync (Optional)
Snagd includes an optional GitHub Gist Sync feature to backup and sync your tasks across devices:
If you enable this feature, your task data is sent directly and exclusively to a private GitHub Gist in your own GitHub account using the GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) you provide.
The token and Gist ID are stored locally on your device in your browser's secure storage (chrome.storage.sync) and are sent directly to GitHub's APIs (api.github.com) for synchronization.
The developer of Snagd has no access to your GitHub account, token, or tasks data. No data is sent to the developer or any other third party.
Permissions Used
storage
Saves your task list and preferences locally in your browser. No data leaves your device.
contextMenus
Adds the "Save tab as task" option to your right-click menu. This is the core feature of the extension.
notifications
Sends a weekly reminder if you have unfinished tasks. Only fires if you have enabled this feature in settings.
alarms
Schedules the weekly nudge notification. No data is involved — this only triggers a local reminder.
activeTab
Reads the title and URL of your current tab when you choose to save it as a task. This data is saved locally only.
Host permissions (all URLs)
Allows the extension to inject a small save popup on any webpage when you right-click. The extension does not read, modify, or transmit any page content.
Third Party Services
Snagd does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only external resource used is Google's favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons) to display website icons next to saved tasks, and GitHub's API (api.github.com) if you choose to enable the optional GitHub Gist Sync.
Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time by:
Using the "Clear completed tasks" button in extension settings
Uninstalling the extension — this permanently removes all locally stored data
Children
Snagd does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
